Urban Light is Evangelical in doctrine, which means that we are committed to the inspiration and the authority of the Word of God and the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  We believe in the historic faith of the church, as summed up in the Apostles Creed.  We unite around those essentials.  However, on many of the side issues that often can divide Christians, we have a diversity of convictions.

We also don't think that faith is just about what we say or what we believe with our heads.  We believe that faith and action can't be separated (James:2:14-17 ).  We try not to love with just words and talk, but in deeds and truth (1 John:3:18).  We are firmly committed to social justice and the name of Jesus Christ.  We believe that the Gospel is a whole: that it addresses all the spiritual, physical, social, and economic needs of the world.  In other words, we try to live out the Great Commandment (loving God and loving our neighbors  Matt:22:36-40 ) and the Great Commission (making disciples  Matt:28:18-20 ).

As part of the Churches of God, General Conference, we adhere to the We Believe statement, which is a good summation of some of our Evangelical convictions
